Essential Questions
How and why is art used as a vehicle for communication?
How can emotion be shared artistically?
How can emotion be shared artistically?
Reflection
I used light layers of watery paint at first to create a background and then added thicker, undiluted paint over the top to create a foreground. I had trouble creating a proper paint to water ratio. I kept using too much water and force when applying my paint which caused the dry layers underneath to rub off. It started off with a light, colorful, watercolor-like look and slowly got darker as I saturated the colors. Later on, in my painting process, I decided to darken all the colors with black. The aesthetic of the final draft fits the song since it is darker and feels monochrome. I was trying to evoke a sense of anxiety and calm at the same time which is why I chose the ocean despite it seeming like an obvious choice. The ocean is calm, peaceful and even relaxing but what lies underneath is dark.
My painting can be considered a rendition of the imagery the song conveys in its lyrics. I like to imagine that is the view you would have if you somehow got transported to the world my song creates. There is no land between the sky and the sea to show how close they are to each other and how we continue to bounce back in fourth in fascination between the two. The painting can either be seen as peaceful or anxious, maybe it depends on how the person looking at it feels.

Drawing Morphing
Rain: Semester 1 - September 2018
Essential Questions
What in nature reflects something man-made?
How does value alter perspective?
How does value alter perspective?
Reflection
Using value in an artwork can give it dimension and variation which can make the subject appear realistic. In this piece, I used graphite pencils, erasers, thick paper, and a blending stump in order to achieve this look. I was fairly successful in imitating realism in the rhino and the train but the morph between the two looks more cartoon-y than realistic. For the most part, I'm pretty proud of this piece.
India Ink Painting
Hazel: Semester 1 - September 2018

How can you share information artistically?
How can you share information artistically?
Reflection
For this painting I used India ink, water, paint brushes, and mixed media paper. I feel fairly proud of this painting. Its the first time in a painting that I have used value, before I was too worried about mixing the right colors and messing up the whole thing. With this painting I didn't have to mix colors or worry about messing up so I think it was perfect for me to get my feet wet with value. I had fun painting this and I really didn't worry like I usually do. It turned out good and pretty realistic so I am satisfied.
